093 Catch and Give
Hey Mountain, you lift the clouds that reach you, and wring rain from them that comes back down as rivers.
What do we do with what we catch?
What do you do with what you catch?
Monsoon clouds roll in from the sea and hit the Western Ghats.
The clouds rise up the slopes, and the rain pours down. Rivers begin.
What really happens
When moist air meets a mountain, it is forced to rise. As it rises, it cools, and its water falls as rain or snow.
This is why the sea-facing side of mountains like the Western Ghats gets heavy rain, and why so many rivers begin in mountains.
How we know: This is called orographic rainfall and is described in every geography textbook.
The turn
We all catch things: chances, ideas, help.
The mountain does not keep what it catches. It turns it into rivers for everyone below.
Three takeaways
- What you catch, you can pass on.
- Turn your gains into rivers for others.
- Stand tall so others can drink.
Catch the cloud. Give the river.
If clouds restrain their gifts and grant no rain, / The treasures fail in ocean's wide domain.
