014 Leave No Mark

Sky. An AI-created illustration for chapter 014, Leave No Mark.

Hey Sky, storms cross you, birds cross you, whole seasons cross you, and you keep no mark of any of it.

What are we still carrying that passed long ago?

What are you still carrying from a storm that ended long ago?

Last week there was thunder. Black clouds. Rain hard enough to flood the street.

Look up this morning. Blue. Not one scar.

What really happens

Storms cross the sky. Birds cross it. Monsoons and winters cross it.

The sky holds every one of them while they are there, and keeps no mark of any of them after they pass.

How we know: This is a teaching image rather than a scientific claim, and one of the oldest. The Avadhuta in the Bhagavata Purana uses the sky in the same way.

The turn

We are not built like that. An old insult, a lost chance, a hard word from years ago: we keep replaying them long after the weather has changed.

The storm ended. We are the ones keeping it alive.

Three takeaways

  1. Feel the storm fully while it is here.
  2. When it passes, let it pass.
  3. Old weather does not belong in today's sky.

The sky remembers no storm. Neither must you.

Clouds come floating into my life from other days no longer to shed rain or usher storm but to give colour to my sunset sky.
